Big Print Conducting Method

With The Big Print Conducting Method, it is possible to learn to conduct music in the comfort of home, without ever needing an ensemble! The series, available from MusicaNeo as e-files, features the following materials:
  • Instructional Books
  • Follow-Along Videos
  • Written Scores
  • Audio Files
  • Parts for Instruments

With these multimedia materials, students learn common time signatures (4/4, 3/4, 2/4, 1/1, and 6/8), plus uncommon time signatures (5/4, 7/4, 9/4) and skills for starting, stopping, and cuing instruments. By using the Follow-Along Videos, it is possible to learn basic conducting skills even without knowing how to read music!

Learning to conduct requires adequate practice exercises. The Big Print Conducting Method: Expanded Exercises includes audio files for the computer, which are particularly convenient for initial stages of learning. For students with access to instrumental or vocal performers, The Big Print Conducting Method: Expanded Exercises also contains scores with flexible instrumentation, so that the exercises can be practiced with any one or two Western band or orchestral instruments or voice. Parts are included for the following transpositions:
  • Treble Clef
    • Instruments in C
    • Instruments in F
    • Instruments in Bb
    • Instruments in Eb
  • Alto Clef
  • Bass Clef

The Big Print Conducting Method is available in several packages from MusicaNeo at a reasonable price. The instructional books with videos are available for only $10, and the expanded exercises corresponding to books 1 and 2 cost are available for only $12. The two textbooks are also available from CreateSpace Wholesale, plus Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, and other internet retailers.

For additional convenient home practice, students can purchase Big Print Ensemble pieces, which also feature flexible instrumentation. Each Big Print Ensemble piece contains a score in C, plus parts for four instruments in all transpositions listed above, as well as audio and MIDI files for convenient home practice. In the series, most pieces are written for three pitched instruments, plus one to three unpitched percussion parts. Big Print Ensemble pieces are available from MusicaNeo, with audio samples available for each piece online.
